OpenNeuroPET Novo Nordisk Foundation, Co-PI · 2020–2027
The OpenNeuroPET Archive – A Molecular Neuroimaging Archive.
A research infrastructure, funded with 10,144,473 DKK, to share, curate and analyze brain Positron Emission Tomography (PET) data. OpenNeuroPET builds directly on the PET BIDS extension (see BIDS) that grew out of PET data-sharing efforts since 2017, and continues that work today.
What it brings together
- Open data standards: the PET-BIDS extension for organizing and sharing PET data and metadata, with tools such as PET2BIDS.
- Data sharing: OpenNeuro, led by Russell Poldrack, now hosts dozens of publicly shared PET datasets; the controlled-access, GDPR-compliant PublicnEUro, led by Cyril Pernet, hosts a growing set of datasets for the molecular neuroimaging community.
- Reproducible workflows: PETPrep for preprocessing (led by Martin Nørgaard), PETFit for kinetic modeling (led by Granville Matheson), and PETSurfer-BIDS (led by Douglas Greve) – open-source tools supporting transparent, reproducible PET analysis.
- Open learning resources: openly available lectures, workshop materials and onboarding resources to help researchers adopt PET-BIDS and reproducible workflows.
This is documented in our paper "Building an open infrastructure for molecular neuroimaging: standards and tools from the OpenNeuroPET initiative" (Journal of Cerebral Blood Flow & Metabolism, 2026) – see Publications.
Outreach
I have given invited talks on OpenNeuroPET's open-science tools, e.g. a keynote on "Efficient Data Management for Clinical Physicists" at the Nordic Association for Clinical Physics annual meeting (NACP2026); slides and outreach material are on the OpenNeuroPET outreach GitHub.
